After a debilitating two year break, VegFest is back and better than ever. Bringing people together with entertaining lectures and engaging events, VegMichigan is a nonprofit organization and a huge contributor to the rapidly growing plant-based community. Although VegFest was a huge success in the city of Detroit and the “Largest veg-friendly event in Michigan”, there are definitely criticisms to be made for an event that has such a significant impact on the health and well-being of one of America’s food deserts. With opinions varying from organizers at Action for Animals to regular attendees leading a plant-based lifestyle, this article provides full coverage on the highs, lows, and in-betweens at VegFest this year.

These two recipes are certain to make you a force to be reckoned with! The anti-inflammatory properties of the turmeric smoothie paired with the satisfying protein and fiber of the chia seeds will leave you with all the energy you need to take on your day. Our chia seed pudding recipe was adopted from Eating Bird Food, a website here to provide people with the best whole food recipes. Our tropical turmeric smoothie was also inspired by our favorite cookbook, Effortless Vegan. To add a little extra flavor we like to top off our chia seed pudding with fresh or frozen fruit. These recipes are open to customization and we encourage you to make it your own!

This vegan ceviche is perfect for enjoying with our vegan tacos or our very popular vegan burrito. The lemon juice in this recipe perfectly compliments the spice from the jalapeño, and this recipe uses hearts of palm instead of fish, which is great because it adds a unique crunch to the dish. You will definitely find yourself making this dish more than once because it is so delicious!

This recipe is an all-time favorite and has become the ultimate vegan comfort food. This burrito would not be the same without Trader Joe’s Greek Chickpeas and Violife Vegan Feta. Seasoned with parsley and cumin, one can of chickpeas has enough oil and seasoning for the whole recipe and the feta cheese is a great way to top it off. This recipe is timeless and can definitely be enjoyed more than once. Pair with our vegan ceviche for the perfect meal.

We can thank Nora Cooks for bringing us this one bowl blueberry scone recipe. Not only are these scones free of all animal products, they are also moist and full of flavor. These sweet scones can just as easily be served as dessert or paired with a cup of coffee first thing in the morning. We added one teaspoon of cinnamon for taste, but these scones knock store bought ones out of the park. Visit Nora Cooks to recreate this recipe, and as always be sure to share your creations with us!
